One of my favorite things to do with Monique is to go to Apple Annie’s in Willcox, Arizona… and pick peaches, buy fresh vegetables, eat kettle corn, and just have a good, old fashioned time! Texas Canyon is a rocky area in between Tucson and Willcox with grasslands, mountains, cattle and horses… it’s definitely a [...]

This drawing was partly inspired by Georgia O’Keefe’s “Sky Above Clouds” paintings, but I was also very interested in the way the clouds resemble mountains in the distance.

My wife Monique requested that I draw “Sleeping Ute Mountain” because it’s her favorite mountain range visible from Cortez. Why? Because it’s the most unique and recognizable mountain here… and has always signified that she’s close to home whenever she sees it from a plane or car.

South of Cortez, it’s pretty barren desert… but there are lots of cool rock formations. This one’s called “Chimney Butte” (I think). The other interesting thing about this formation is the color of the dirt… it’s like a blue-gray!

Walking my dog, Charlie, here in Cortez, Colorado has been quite a bit different than walking him in Tucson, Arizona… We see deer, cows, horses, geese, bald eagles, you name it! (The cows and geese seem to piss Charlie off… everyone else gets a pass ;)

This is about as close to Switzerland as you’re gonna get! I just love going to Mancos, Colorado and seeing the amazing views of Mount Hesperus. There’s just something about mountains… every time I see one in the distance, I always get this mysterious feeling, like “What’s going on on that distant peak?”

One of my favorite places I’ve driven through was the Joshua Tree Parkway in northwest Arizona on the way to Las Vegas… Why? First of all, I always love how you can see for miles and miles in the desert… Add thousands of Joshua Tree “sculptures” to the landscape and it is quite a site [...]

I decided to get “back to my roots” and draw as it comes to me, without over-thinking things. It’s my goal to get at least one drawing done a day, and this is the first one! This drawing was inspired by Cortez, Colorado… where we recently moved. The trees here have lived a harsh life, [...]
